NATIONAL RACING FESTIVAL READY TO THRILL FANS AT BIC

The three-day extravaganza will feature two of the Kingdom’s most popular local racing series

20-Dec-2011

Bahrain International Circuit, ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’, is gearing up for yet another enticing weekend out on the track with the National Racing Festival set to take place from Wednesday to Friday (December 21 to 23, 2011) in Sakhir.

The three-day extravaganza will feature two of the Kingdom’s most popular local racing series, namely the Bahrain Drag Racing Championship and the BIC 2,000cc Challenge.

The event is being organised by the Bahrain Drag Racing Club and Circuit Racing Club, in cooperation with the Bahrain Motor Federation and Bahrain International Circuit.

Action gets underway on Wednesday (December 21, 2011) night with a ‘Test and Tune’ session for the drag racers. Close to 100 participants from all over the Gulf are expected to compete in round three of the ongoing 2011/2012 campaign, which is proving to be an historic season with several new World and National records already being set.

Following the ‘Test and Tune’, qualifying will be held on Thursday (December 22, 2011) evening to determine the pairings for the opening stages of competition on Friday (December 23, 2011) night.

That will prove to be a fitting climax as the region’s best drag racers, divided into 11 different categories for cars and motorbikes, are certain to put on a spectacular show powering down Bahrain International Circuit’s state-of-the-art quarter-mile strip.

Meanwhile, the BIC 2,000cc Challenge will be burning rubber Friday morning and afternoon.

The grid of up to a dozen of the most competitive gentleman drivers in Bahrain will once again be battling it for supremacy as the 2011/2012 season reaches its midway point with the fourth of seven rounds.

Action will begin with a practice session, followed by qualifying and two races.

Stephen Kellogg heads into the meeting with a commanding lead on the Drivers’ Championship standings. He has 136 points after winning an impressive five of the season’s first six races, including four in a row.

Abdulrahman Ghuloom is in second place with 114 points, while Tim Birkin follows in third on 108 markers. Both drivers will be looking to keep within striking distance of Kellogg. The top three are the only drivers to have scored over 100 points so far this year.

All are welcome to attend the weekend’s events and have a fun and entertaining day out with the entire family. Apart from the racing, there will also be plenty of off-the-track activities for people of all ages, especially for youngsters, located along the vending area of Bahrain International Circuit.

Tickets start at BD3 for adults and BD1.5 for children. They can be purchased at the gate.
