Vitaly Petrov has made history as the first Formula 1 driver from Russia. He brings bags of raw talent, and after blending tin-top and sportscar racing in Russia with single-seaters in Europe, Vitaly made a winning impression in his first full GP2 Series season in 2007.
Third in a closely-contested 2008 was followed by a runner-up spot behind star-in-the-making Nico Hulkenberg in 2009. So, Vitaly has trod an unconventional path to Formula 1, but has shown in 2010 that he deserves the opportunity.
The 2011 championship saw him make a brilliant start with a podium in Australia, but his Renault became uncompetitive from there.
Now with Caterham for 2012, he hopes that his new team can bring with him some new fortunes.
