Having burst onto the scene with a charging points finish on his Formula 1 debut with Williams in Bahrain in 2006, Nico Rosberg has the potential to really show his talent.

The son of 1982 title winner Keke Rosberg certainly looks and sounds the part, he has an impressive engineering grasp, qualifies accurately and races aggressively. His move from Williams to Mercedes GP for 2010 elevated him to a top car from which he could take on his peers.

The arrival of Michael Schumacher threw up the potential for Nico to shine up against the sport’s master. But equally there was the possibility that he’d struggle against a seven-times champion who was either as fast as ever, or totally out of touch with modern Formula 1. In the end, Schumacher struggled and Rosberg shone in 2010. That only raises expectations further on Rosberg for 2012 onwards. If the team deliver a quick car he may be expected to start turning potential into race wins. It will be a pivotal year for the young German.
