BIC, Sakhir – Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’, is preparing to host a third installment of Speed Weekend this March 30 and 31 in Sakhir.

Speed Weekend is a showcase of the very best of regional racing. The previous two events held at BIC earlier this season were both a grand success.

The upcoming meeting is set to feature two of the most popular series to come from the Middle East, including the WGA Supercars Championship ME and the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge ME.

The WGA Supercars will be holding its penultimate round of its 2011/2012 campaign while the Porsche GT3 Cup will be staging their grand finale to its ongoing season.

Plenty of thrills and heart-stopping drama is expected in both categories, as the battle for supremacy in each highly competitive championship reaches an exciting climax.

In the WGA Supercars, which is backed by Bahrain-based asset management company Western Gulf Advisory (WGA) and tyre giants Pirelli, the penultimate meeting of the year will assure some hotly contested racing as the top teams look to gain even the slightest advantage in their respective points championship.

The same will be seen amongst the field of competitors in the elite SC09 category, which features some of the Arab world’s top talents as well as a number of international stars. They are all currently closely grouped together in their title fight.

In the Porsche GT3 Cup, the season finale will set the stage for the coronation of the 2011/2012 champion. With the previous season’s title winner Shaikh Salman bin Rashid Al Khalifa of Bahrain not taking part this year, a new victor is set to emerge.

Speed Weekend will be marking the first time the Porsche GT3 Cup comes to Bahrain this season – a long-awaited return to its home base. It has been a record-breaking campaign thus far, with the series holding its first-ever night races in early March.

Meanwhile, apart from all the racing action, Speed Weekend will feature plenty of off-the-track entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

There will be a bouncy castle, carnival games and miniature rides for children; as well as food and beverage stalls that will whet your appetite.

Further, a DJ will be playing live music throughout the day to help set the jovial mood of the event.

Tickets for Speed Weekend cost BD7 for adults for both days and BD5 for one day only. Children aged 12 years old and under will be able to get in for free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.
