WGA SUPERCARS CHAMPIONSHIP MIDDLE EAST
The Western Gulf Advisory (WGA) Supercars Championship Middle East is the premier motor racing series in the region. It has won widespread acclaim for its highly competitive nature and professionally run operations, and it has garnered supporters and followers from all over the region through its visits to different circuits across the Gulf.
This year is the fifth season of the championship, and it has grown each year to what it is today.
TITLE SPONSOR
: Western Gulf Advisory (WGA) is a Bahrain-based wealth asset management company, which also has a base in Switzerland. WGA was founded and is chaired by Ahsan Ali Syed, who is also currently the owner of Spanish La Liga football club, Racing Santander.
WGA are backing the Supercars Championship for the second successive year.
TYRE SUPPLIERS
: Tyre manufacturing giants Pirelli are the exclusive suppliers of tyres for this year’s WGA Supercars Championship Middle East. This is the second season in a row that Pirelli are supporting the Supercars Championship.
HISTORY
: The WGA Supercars Championship Middle East is a private series that first ran as the Lumina CSV Championship in 2006. Bahrain International Circuit has been taking care of the organisation and marketing of the series. It became the first-ever championship to be included in the International Automobile Federation (FIA) International Calendar.
HONOUR ROLL
: Tarek Elgammal from Australia was the series’ first-ever champion. Bahraini ace Fahad Al Musalam then captured the crown for back-to-back campaigns after that, before the fourth season was cut short due to unforeseen circumstances.
Now in its fifth campaign, and with Al Musalam not competing, a new champion in the elite SC09 category will be crowned and as another in the lower-rung SC06 class for highly competitive gentleman drivers.
