Fernando Alonso had a welcome performance at the 2015 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix following a difficult start to the new season, which included a missed race in Australia, retirement in Malaysia and 12th place in China.
Things appeared promising after qualifying, when Alonso became the first of the McLaren cars to make it into Q2 in qualifying.
After starting from 14th on the grid, the McLaren driver managed to make his way up the final classification to 11th, although crossing the finish one lap behind the victorious Lewis Hamilton.
Alonso commented after the race:
“We weren’t quite fast enough to get into the top 10, but we finished the race and got a bit more valuable experience with the car, which had been our main objective.
