Lewis Hamilton in Bahrain
Lewis Hamilton on Bahrain International Circuit’s Grand Prix track:
“I don’t actually have the best record in Bahrain compared to other circuits. Last year was my first win here and it was definitely one I’ll remember after a great fight with Nico. That’s what I love about racing and it’s a special feeling to come out on top in a battle like that.”
- Race result: Winner
- Qualifying position: Pole in 1:32.571
Hamilton had a dominant drive to win the 2015 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. The Mercedes ace enjoyed a great start to protect his lead on the first run down to Bahrain International Circuit’s Michael Schumacher Turn.
Hamilton did well to stay in contention throughout the race, and later survived a scare towards the end en route to claiming his victory.
Following his final pit stop, he took over as leader from Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, and the pair battled each other hard for the number one spot.
Hamilton managed to stave off Raikkonen’s surge despite experiencing brake issues on the final lap. He won with a three-second gap ahead.
Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg joined them on the podium in third.
Hamilton commented post-race:
“I have to say a big thanks to everyone back at the factories and here at the track. The car was really nice to drive this weekend and they’ve done a great job. They won’t be 100 percent happy I’m sure as Kimi took points from us today. But it’s still a good haul of points and I know we’ll work even harder to do better at the next race. That’s what motorsport is all about and that’s why we go racing - to fight with other teams."
