Ralf Aron from Estonia set the pace in the first free practice session of the MRF Challenge’s season-opening round, which kicked off the racing action in the Bahrain Motorsport Festival Thursday morning at Bahrain International Circuit.
Aron clocked a fastest lap of two minutes 01.144 seconds around BIC’s 5.412-kilometre track. He completed 13 laps in the half-hour session and registered a top speed of 160.8kph.
Aron was 0.119 seconds ahead of Briton Harrison Newey, the son of Formula 1 design guru Adrian Newey.
Mick Schumacher, son of legendary Formula 1 Michael Schumacher, was classified third 0.226s from the first.
Each of the top eight drivers were within a second of Aron. They included Aron’s countryman Juri Vips, Brazilian Felipe Drugovich, German Kimi Schramm, Australian Joey Mawson and Dutchman Rinus van Kalmthout.
Practice two and qualifying takes place later in the day on Thursday.
