Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), today offers its congratulations to Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes Formula One team on securing a second successive drivers’ and constructors’ championship.
At a thrilling United States Grand Prix, the British driver secured a win at The Circuit of the Americas to take an unassailable lead in the 2015 championship.
With a win at BIC earlier this year, Hamilton secured his 10th victory of the season and now becomes the equal most successful British F1 driver of all time with three championship titles, alongside Sir Jackie Stewart.
The Mercedes team has also secured the constructers’ championship for the second year running, with Hamilton and his teammate Nico Rosberg amassing 574 points, with three races still to go in the season.
Commenting on the achievement, BIC Chief Executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa said:
"On behalf of the Bahrain International Circuit board, its management and staff, I would like to congratulate Lewis for once again winning the drivers’ world championship. Only a handful have reached the pinnacle of the sport and won this prestigious title multiple times, let alone twice in a row. His special achievement certainly cements his place amongst the greatest ever in the sport, with still a long career remaining. I also congratulate him on matching the feat of another friend of the BIC, Sir Jackie Stewart, in winning three titles, equalling the record for any British driver.
“I wish Lewis all the best for the remainder of the season and we look forward to welcoming him back here in Bahrain in the near future.
“I also congratulate the Mercedes team on their constructers’ title, with a dominant display throughout the season so far, including here at BIC earlier this season. It takes considerable teamwork from a vast number of people to produce performances of such consistency and I applaud each and every member of the team in delivering such high quality performances throughout the season.”
