Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel set the pace today on the opening day of Formula 1 pre-season testing at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
Vettel registered a fastest lap of 1:24.939 seconds to top the timesheet. He set his best time during the morning session and was the only driver to break the one-minute 24-second mark in the full day of testing in the team’s SF16-H.
Sebastian Vettel said after testing:
"The car is a step forward. It was the first proper day and it was good to get some laps and a first feel for the car. The first impression was very positive. It’s better to be first in one month’s time. It’s better than being last but it’s not really important. We’re fairly happy with the car, the way it felt."
Lewis Hamilton followed with a best lap of 1:25.409. The three-time world champion was the busiest on the day, completing over a staggering 156 laps.
Classified below him was Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull Racing, who had a fastest lap of 1:26.044.
