Lewis Hamilton made it four victories in a row today with a dominant drive in the 2016 Formula 1 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.
Starting on the front row alongside pole-sitter and Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, Hamilton enjoyed a brilliant start and quickly charged into the lead while Rosberg dropped to fourth behind the equally impressive pairing of Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen.
Hamilton never looked back and it eventually finished in the same order for the top three.
Hamilton took the chequered flag in one hour 30 minutes 44.200 seconds. Riccirado finished 6.996 seconds behind while Verstappen was 13.413s adrift.
Rosberg had to settle for a fourth in his home race. He was classified 15.845s from first, while the Ferrari tandem of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen rounded out the top six.
Hamilton claimed his sixth victory overall this Formula 1 season and he further extended his lead on the drivers’ championship standings. The Briton continues to gain pace in his quest to secure a third successive world title and fourth of his career.
Quote from the winner
“What a day! Just awesome! I wasn’t expecting to be as strong as I was today. I had a great start. We have been working really hard to get off the line faster and more consistently and that hard work has clearly paid off. A big thanks also to the guys in the garage, I’m glad they get a well-earned break now as they really deserve it. I’m super happy with today!”
Of the summer break, Hamilton said:
“It’s awesome to go into the break on such a high. I was 43 points behind at one stage, so to keep working on the gap turn it around like that is great. Lastly, I just want to say a big thank you to the fans. So many of them have turned up here in Germany and they’ve been so supportive. That positive energy really drives me on, so a big thank you once again to them and I hope they have a great holiday. I’m definitely going to!”
