Mohamed Mattar and Abdulla Buhindi overcame wet conditions to clinch the top prizes in the latest round of the 2016/2017 Bahrain Karting Sprint Championship (BKSC), held this past weekend at Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC) in Sakhir.
Mattar won the season’s second race in the Bahrain Rotax Mojo Max Championship (BRMMC) while Buhindi claimed the coveted victory in round four of the Bahrain SWS Sprint Championship (SWS). Both the BRMMC and the SWS make up the BKSC.
In the BRMMC, which is a championship for Rotax kart owners, Mattar was one of seven drivers vying for the win.
He powered to a dominant victory in the 15-lap Final which he claimed in 19 minutes 29.934 seconds. Mattar was a distant 35.949 seconds ahead of runner-up Hussain Hassan, and 42.388s in front of Khaled Alsaei who claimed the final podium place.
Ali Baslar and Khalifa Al Yaqoobi completed the top five, all of whom were competing in the BRMMC’s Max class.
Mohamed Faqihi won the Max Masters division while Sulaiman Alkanderi was in the Max Juniors but was not classified after completing just five laps in the Final.
Mattar had earlier clinched pole position for the decisive race after winning the Pre-Final.
In the SWS, which is the national championship’s arrive-and-drive class, Buhindi also enjoyed a comfortable victory, but was not as dominant as Mattar.
There were 13 karters in all competing, each of whom were driving identical Sodikarts provided for by BIKC.
Buhindi completed their 15-lap Final in 24:25.078. He was 18.871s in front of Rashid Khalifa, while Mohammed Abdulaziz clinched the final podium spot after finishing 28.452s back.
Ahmed Abduljalil followed in fourth and Abubaker Ali fifth, while rounding out the top eight were Qassim Ebrahim, Shaikh Ahmed bin Salman Al Khalifa and Baland Rabaya.
Following all the action, the winners were presented their respective trophies in a podium ceremony.
The next round of the BKSC will be held on January 6 as the first event of the new calendar year.
