Julian Hanses from Germany clinched the narrowest of victories this afternoon in the weekend’s first race of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East, taking place at Bahrain International Circuit in support of the FIA WEC Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain.

Hanses won the season-opening event ahead of pole-sitter Leon Koehler by just 0.004 seconds, while third-placer Berkay Besler was just 0.293s behind.

Koehler drove a brilliant race after stalling at the start and dropping to the very back of the field before gradually battling back to claim the runner-up spot.

JB Simmenauer finished fourth while Richard Wagner rounded out the top five.

Each of the leading drivers were competing in the series’ Pro class.

Taking the ProAm win was Jesse Van Kuijk. He was 18.783s from Hanses, while winning the Am category was Bahrain’s Shaikh Jaber Al Khalifa.

The Porsche runners are set to return for their second of three scheduled races tonight starting at 6.55pm.
