Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa captured his fifth double of the 2014/2015 BIC 2,000cc Challenge on Friday.
Starting from the front, Shaikh Hamad (Honda CIVIC) claimed an impressive pole-to-flag victory in the 15-lap first race in 19minutes 54.855seconds. Hussain Karimi (Honda CRX) trailed in second place 4.591secs behind, while Raed Himmo (Honda CRX) completed the podium placers in third 46.564secs behind the victor.
“Hussain was quick again today but it was not his usual pace; I believe he had some car issues. But he still put up another strong challenge. With two rounds to go, we can expect things to get more competitive, especially when we get a full grid.” – Shaikh Hamad
Shaikh Hamad secured another fantastic double, bringing his wins tally to 11 out of a possible 12. Shaikh Hamad took the chequered flag in 19mins 57.800secs. Karimi was the runner-up once again 5.064secs behind, whereas Alex Longden (BMW 3 Series) claimed third to complete the podium in third place 32.676secs back.
“Things went very well today. Both races were quite straightforward. It is definitely not my championship to lose yet. Hussain is right behind me on the standings, we are always finishing as first and second and there is not much of a difference between is in terms of lap times.” – Shaikh Hamad
The next round of the BIC 2,000cc Challenge, which will be the seventh of eight for the season, is scheduled to take place on April 24.
