Bahraini duo secure qualification for Bahrain Darts Masters 2023

Bahraini duo secure qualification for Bahrain Darts Masters 2023

Bahraini darts players Bassim Mahmood and Abdulnaser Yusuf have secured their qualification in the Bahrain Darts Masters 2023, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s debut event on the PDC World Series of Darts which will take place on 12 and 13 January at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir. They are now set to take on the best players in the world in this landmark tournament at BIC.

The local pair claimed the incredible chance to compete amongst the world’s most iconic darts players next month after finishing in the top two of a national qualifying tournament, held over two days this past weekend at Bahrain Rugby Football Club in Saar.

Mahmood and Yusuf, as well as Arif Abbas and Aref Murad, all made it through to the qualifiers’ semi-finals on the final day, with Mahmood and Yusuf advancing to the final. There, Mahmood won their match-up 7-0.

The local pair will join six other players from the wider Asia region – including legendary Singapore star Paul Lim, Japan’s Toru Suzuki and Philippines’ Lourence Ilagan – to be part of a field of 16 that includes eight of the top names in the global game.

Among those superstars confirmed to be taking part are World Champions Peter Wright, Gerwyn Price, Rob Cross and Raymond van Barneveld; Grand Slam of Darts champion Michael Smith; two-time World Series winner Dimitri Van den Bergh; and rising star and world number five Luke Humphries.

The qualifying event was supported by BIC, Banz Group, Darts Bay and The Bahrain Billiards, Snooker and Darts Federation. The competition applied rules from the Darts Regulation Authority.

The Bahrain Darts Masters 2023 will mark the opening round of next year’s PDC World Series of Darts global tour. It will comprise two days of competition at the dome tent at “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”, which will be transformed into a darts venue for the event – mirroring the unique atmosphere currently being seen in the World Darts Championship in London.
