Mercantile & Maritime becomes Official Green Ticket Partner of the Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain

  • Mercantile & Maritime joins the WEC Green Ticket Partnership, a groundbreaking programme that supports environmental projects in Bahrain
  • Partnership, which also includes nogaholding, have come together to fund a Government-led mangrove plantation programme.

Bahrain International Circuit, “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East” today announced that Mercantile & Maritime, the independent commodity trading business, has become an Official Green Ticket Partner of the Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain.

Mercantile & Maritime joins nogaholding and BIC, which are working together on this groundbreaking initiative, which aims to set a benchmark for sustainability initiatives in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Green Ticket Partnership is working with The Government of Bahrain to fund a programme of mangrove planting, which supports the Kingdom’s target to quadruple mangrove coverage by 2035. For every ticket sold, a proportion of the revenue, matched by nogaholding and Mercantile & Maritime, is donated to the fund which will deliver the plantations.

This latest sustainability initiative is part of BIC’s broader plan to ensure it continues to work in reducing its impact on the planet. The circuit works with both the Government and key partners to deliver on these aims.

A spokesperson from Mercantile & Maritime commented:

“We are proud to join nogaholding as an official Green Ticket Partner of the Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain. Mercantile & Maritime has a long history of supporting initiatives which positively impact the local communities that we operate in. We are delighted to join with our partners in providing direct support to sustainability projects in Bahrain as an example of our growing commitment to ESG programmes.”

Sherif al Mahdy, Chief Commercial Officer at Bahrain International Circuit, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Mercantile & Maritime as an official Green Ticket Partner for the Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain and we thank them for their support. This initiative is an important element of our broader sustainability plan and we are delighted to be working with such high-profile partners on this work.”
