Stage set for third round of Bahrain Drag Racing Championship this week at BIC strip

The Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) drag strip comes alive this week with the third round of the 2024/2025 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship, taking place from Tuesday to Friday (21 to 24 January) in Sakhir.

Drag racers from all over the world will be lighting up the top-class quarter-mile drag strip at ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’ in the region’s biggest and most popular drag racing series.

The upcoming meeting is organised by BIC, the Bahrain Motor Federation, and the Bahrain Drag Racing Commission. The championship is sanctioned by the U.S.-based National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), and BIC is a member of the prestigious NHRA Worldwide Network.

More than 200 participants in cars and motorbikes took part in each of the first two rounds, making for a packed schedule that is expected to be the same over the coming four days.

Action begins with Test and Tune on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday’s session is scheduled for a 6pm start while Wednesday’s will kick off from 4pm.

Qualifying will then be held on Thursday from 3pm onwards, setting the elimination ladders for race day on Friday, which is scheduled to kick off at 1pm.

Fans looking to attend the round can watch the excitement on the strip from the Startline Grandstand and the Beyon Grandstand.

Tickets to the Startline Grandstand are BD5 for both qualifying and race day. Tickets for Test and Tune are BD2 apiece for both days to the Beyon Grandstand, while tickets for qualifying and race day are BD3 per person for both nights along the Beyon Grandstand.

Tickets can be purchased online at bahraingp.com, by calling the BIC Hotline on +973-17450000, or at the gate.

Racing this season is being held in 14 categories for both cars and motorbikes. The cars classes include the Index 7.5, Pro 29.5 V8, Outlaw 4 Cylinder, Outlaw 6 Cylinder, Index 10.00, Index 9.00, Index 8.50, Competition 4.5, and Pro Mod; while the motorbike classes are Pro Street Bike, Street Fight 9.5, Index 8.5 Bike, Outlaw Bike, and Street Fight.

Also available to fans attending this week’s meeting is the Dragster Experience – BIC’s most adrenaline-pumping passenger activity. Known as ‘the Fastest Ride on Earth’, this offers fans the chance to get a taste of pure speed as they are taken from zero to 100kph in just one second while in the cockpit of a 10,500cc Top Dragster. It can be enjoyed individually or by two passengers at a time.

The Dragster Experience is available at BD44 for a first passenger, while a second passenger can join for half the price.

The 2024/2025 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship features five rounds. Following this week’s events, the fourth and penultimate meeting is scheduled for 11 to 14 February, after which the season finale will be taking place the very next week from 18 to 21 February.
