More than 90,000 flock to BIC for four days of spectacular celebrations

Massive crowds of over 90,000 joined four days of celebration, including 38,000 for weekend of National Day Festival and WEC racing

Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”, wrapped up four days of spectacular celebrations and top-class racing on Monday night with the final day of this year’s BIC National Day Festival.

A mind-blowing total of more than 90,000 people poured into the Sakhir circuit from Friday to Monday to enjoy incredible celebrations and racing. The events included:

  • Two days of world-class motor racing headlined by the FIA WEC Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain
  • Four days of the National Day Festival featuring all kinds of family attractions and concerts.

The four days attracted the largest crowd ever at BIC, outside of the annual Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.

The FIA WEC Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain was held with 31 cars competing in the endurance racing spectacle. It marked the fourth round of the 2019/2020 World Endurance Championship (WEC) and Toyota Gazoo Racing enjoyed a superb one-two finish.

Also taking place on the track were supporting series the MRF Challenge and the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East.

The BIC National Day Festival was a grand success once again. Headlining the event were the four nightly concerts featuring superstars of Arabic music Balqees, Mohammed Al Salem, Essa Al Marzooq and Abdullah Rowaished.

Magnificent fireworks over three straight nights plus a classic car show, stunt performers, kids’ entertainment, cultural performances, a BDF fly-pass, a National Guard parachute display, roaming performers and music from the Ministry of Interior Police Band all entertained the crowd.

The BIC National Day Festival was held with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

BIC Chief Executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa commented:

“It has been a real honour to host four days of such magical celebrations in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It was a delight to see the massive crowds enjoying themselves each and every day and night; be it for the Gulf Cup celebrations, the WEC or our National Day festivities.

“I congratulate and thank all those who contributed to the success of the event including to the entire BIC team, various Government Ministries and our partners and sponsors.

“We are proud to have delivered such an amazing and memorable four days and we look forward to much more to come in the near future.

“I take this opportunity to once again wish the Kingdom of Bahrain’s leadership – headed by His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister – and all our fellow-Bahrainis a truly blessed and wonderful National Day!”
