Record-breaking Hypercar battles to thrill fans at BIC this Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain

Motorsport fans attending the upcoming Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) will enjoy a never-before-seen Hypercar spectacle at the World Endurance Championship (WEC) event.

A record number of 12 Hypercars flying the flags of eight teams and six manufacturers will be lining up on the grid, making for the largest-ever entry in the WEC’s top-tier category to hit the tarmac at “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”.

The Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain is scheduled to take place 3 and 4 November at BIC in Sakhir as the final round of the 2023 FIA WEC season.

Tickets to the Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain are available now and fans are urged to purchase theirs today so as not to miss out on the special occasion at BIC. Tickets cost just BD5.500 for adults and BD2.750 for kids for the two-day weekend programme. They can be bought online at bahraingp.com or by calling the BIC Hotline on +973-17450000.

Tickets are priced as one of the most affordable ways to experience a world championship motorsport event at the Kingdom’s globally renowned facility.

Hospitality packages are also available at the Spirit of Le Mans Club, where guests can experience exclusive cuisine and incredible views in our Paddock hospitality. Packages are also available to purchase online or via the BIC Hotline.

With over a decade of racing history at BIC, the WEC has grown to become a landmark event in Bahrain.

This year, the Hypercar category will yet again be the top draw, but this time it will have up to a dozen contenders vying for glory as the Spirit of Le Mans makes its presence felt once again in the Kingdom. Toyota Gazoo Racing and Peugeot TotalEnergies will be making their return. They will be joined in the Hypercar battles for the first time in Bahrain by Ferrari AF Corse, Porsche Penske Motorsport, Cadillac Racing, Floyd Vanwall Racing Team, Hertz Team JOTA, and Proton Competition.

Toyota Gazoo Racing, Peugeot TotalEnergies, Ferrari AF Corse and Porsche Penske Motorsport will each have two cars taking to the track. Eleven of the cars will be Hybrids, including both of Toyota’s GR010 challengers, Peugeot’s 9X8 contenders, Ferrari’s 499P challengers, and Porsche’s 963 cars, which will also be raced in by Hertz Team JOTA and Proton Competition.

Cadillac Racing will be on track with its V-Series.R Hybrid, while Floyd Vanwall Racing Team will compete with their Vanwall Vandervell 680.

Many of motor racing’s most popular and supremely talented drivers will be among those sharing the duties in their respective Hypercars in Bahrain. They include former Formula 1 aces Sebastien Buemi and Brendon Hartley in Toyota Gazoo Racing’s #8 car; Kamui Kobayashi in Toyota’s #7 challenger; Paul di Resta and Jean-Eric Verge in Peugeot TotalEnergies’ #93 contender; and Antonio Giovinazzi in Ferrari AF Corse’s #51 car, to name only a few.

The FIA Hypercar World Endurance Drivers’ Championship will be up for grabs in Bahrain. Up to four different Hypercar crews still have a chance to come away with the crown.

Toyota’s #8 trio of Buemi, Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa are the current leaders as they aim to capture the drivers’ championship for a second successive season. They are on 133 points apiece, but are closely followed by their #7 teammates Kobayashi, Jose Maria Lopez and Mike Conway on 118 points apiece.

Trailing in third and fourth place, respectively, are two Ferrari AF Corse crews. Giovinazzi, Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado, driving the team’s #51 Ferrari 499P Hybrid, are on 102 points apiece; while the #50 crew of Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen are fourth with 97 points each.

The Hypercars are just one class in the packed grid of more than 35 sportscars featuring top global manufacturers, world-renowned racing teams and a star-studded driver roster. The WEC’s other two categories are the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) and Le Mans Grand Touring Endurance (LMGTE) Am.

This year’s Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain will be the 12th time the WEC will be racing in Sakhir, and the fifth time the event is taking place in its current eight-hour format. They will be tackling BIC’s 5.412-kilometre track from day to night, making for a brilliant spectacle that flags off under the afternoon sun and wraps up beneath the stars while being brilliantly lit by BIC’s state-of-the-art floodlights.

Following the tremendous success of the ground-breaking Green Ticket initiative introduced for last year’s WEC race, BIC and Bapco Energies, in cooperation with the Government of Bahrain, are bringing it back for the 2023 event.

For every WEC ticket sold, a proportion of the revenue, matched by Bapco Energies, will be donated to a fund which will directly support the planting of new Mangroves in Bahrain. This programme supports the national target of quadrupling mangrove coverage across the Kingdom by 2035.

Aside from the WEC action, there will also be top-class racing from the region’s leading one-make series, the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East.

Off the track, BIC has lined up a number of colourful attractions for all the family to enjoy on both days. These are available at the BIC vending area, and they include stunt shows, a classic car show, car simulators, roaming performers, kids’ stage shows, and so much more incredible entertainment.

All these plus so much more await race fans attending this year’s Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain.
