Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) Chief Executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa expressed his congratulations today to His Majesty the King’s Personal Representative His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, his drag racing team Bahrain1Racing, and American driver Steve Jackson, for winning a second successive world championship title in the NHRA Pro Mod Series, the world’s most prestigious drag racing championship.
Jackson, who is popularly known as “Stevie Fast”, clinched his second consecutive Pro Mod championship for Bahrain1Racing. He secured the crown in the Dodge NHRA Finals on Sunday, held at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the US. In an incredible finish to the year, the Bahrain 1 team dominated, to fill the first three places at the final event of the series.
Shaikh Salman commented: “I offer my sincerest congratulations to His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa and his Bahrain1Racing team on their second successive world championship. We are delighted to be a partner of the team, which has yet again demonstrated its position at the top of its class in world motorsport.
“This victory reflects the personal dedication of His Highness Shaikh Abdulla and the efforts of all the team at Bahrain1racing. They are a true inspiration for motorsport in Bahrain, reflecting Bahrain’s ability to compete at the very highest level.”
Not only did Steve Jackson clinch the 2020 Pro Mod title, he also took first place overall in the round for Bahrain1Racing.
In the eliminations, Jackson narrowly beat Brandon Snider in a winner-take-all second round race that decided the season title. Snider headed into the weekend as the championship’s points leader, but by defeating his principal rival, Jackson and his supercharged Bahrain1 Camaro earned a semifinal bye due to the 11-car field that ensured enough points to prevent his remaining challenger, teammate Khalid Al Balooshi, from surpassing him on the standings.
Against Snider, Jackson registered a winning time of 5.776 seconds, just over a hundredth of a second quicker than Snider, who registered a time of 5.787s. Jackson also had a top speed of 248.66mph, which helped him overcome his slower reaction time of 0.022s coming off the starting line.
Jackson then went on to face Al Balooshi in an all-Bahrain final, which he won 5.789s to 5.890s. Jackson had a top speed of 247.47mph with a 0.050s reaction time in his pass.
Jackson’s title-deciding triumph was a fitting culmination to a hugely competitive season in the Pro Mod class, which saw six different winners in the campaign’s six races and five different points leaders.
