The second round of the 2018/2019 Bahrain Karting Sprint Championship (BKSC) takes place on Friday at Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BKIC) in Sakhir.
Following an action-packed season-opener held last month, racing is expected to intensify as the karters compete glory, silverware and valuable championship points.
Lighting up BIKC’s world-renowned 1.414-kilometre Commission Internationale de Karting (CIK) Track this weekend will be BKSC’s Bahrain Rotax Mojo Max Challenge (BRMMC).
Many of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s best karters will be suiting up for the event, which is set to feature the following BRMMC non-gearbox classes: Micro (eight to 11 years old), Mini (10 to 13 years old), Junior (12 to 15 years), Max (14 years old and above) and the Max-Masters (32 years old and above).
They will all be battling it out in karts with sealed Rotax 125cc EVO engines, which must be checked and sealed by BIKC before being allowed to take part. Tyres must be Mojo D2 tyres for the Micro and Mini classes; and Mojo D4 tyres for the Junior, Max and Max-Masters classes.
Friday’s on-track action will kick start with a seven-minute free-practice at 10.40am for the Micro and Mini classes. The Junior Max, Max and Max-Masters then go out for their own seven-minute practice at 10.55am.
Qualifying for the Micro and Mini karters will then take place at 11.10am, followed by Qualifying for the Juniors at 11.25am and then for the Max and Max-Masters at 11.40am.
After an hour-long lunch break, a seven-lap Pre-Final for the Micro and Mini categories will then be held with a 1pm start. An 11-lap Pre-Final for the Junior class will follow at 1.20pm, and an 11-lap Pre-Final for the Max and Max-Masters classes takes place at 1.45pm.
Those sessions will set the stage for the Finals in each category. The nine-lap Micro-Mini Final will be at 2.35pm, the 15-lap Junior Final at 2.55pm, and the 15-lap Max and Max-Masters Final at 3.30pm.
The podium ceremony will follow all the action at around 4.30pm.
Heading into Friday’s round, Absolute Racing team are in the lead in three of the five entrant categories. They top all Max-Master entrants with 35 points, lead the Mini entrants with 62 points, and are setting the pace amongst Micro entrants with 71 points.
Setting the pace for entrants in the Max class are Racing Bahrain with 78 points, while Dojomoto Racing top the Junior entrants standings with 48 points.
This year’s BRMMC will crown two winners at the end of the season: the first is the driver’s champion and the other is the entrant. There are seven rounds in all in the on-going campaign, with round three following this weekend’s events on December 8, which will be the last of the calendar year.
Round four kicks off 2019 on January 4, and then round five takes place more than a month later on February 8. The penultimate round of the championship is then scheduled for March 15, paving the way for the season finale on April 5.
Aside from the BRMMC, the BKSC also features action in the Bahrain Sodi Sprint World Series at BIKC.
