Kobayashi-Conway-Lopez keep Toyota Gazoo Racing on top

Toyota Gazoo Racing’s #7 crew of Kamui Kobayashi-Mike Conway-Jose Maria Lopez set the pace in Free Practice 2 this morning in the FIA WEC Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain weekend at Bahrain International Circuit.

The trio had a best lap of 1min 49.063secs in their GR010 Hybrid to post the overall best time and also lead the Hypercar class.

Free Practice 1 leaders, Toyota Gazoo Racing’s #8 crew of Sebastien Buemi-Kazuki Nakajima-Brendon Hartley, were just 0.030secs slower, while Alpine Elf Matmut’s Andre Negrao-Nicolas Lapierre-Matthieu Vaxiviere were third in class 1.131secs off the pace in their #36 A480-Gibson.

Leading the LMP2 class were the #28 Oreca 07-Gibson of JOTA’s Sean Gelael-Stoffel Vandoorne-Tom Blomqvist. They had a fastest lap of 1:50.199.

The LMGTE categories had a pair of Porsches in front. Leading the Pro category were Neel Jani and Kevin Estre in their #92 Porsche 911 RSR-19 with a best lap of 1:56.411, while Team Project 1’s Egidio Perfetti-Matteo Cairoli-Riccardo Pera in their #56 911 RSR-19 were the frontrunners amongst the LMGTE Am competitors with a time of 1:58.015.

The WEC competitors will be back on track this afternoon for an hour-long Free Practice 3 starting at 12.45pm. Qualifying will then follow in the late afternoon.
