Speed Weekend set for packed programme of racing at BIC

The action never stops at Bahrain International Circuit, “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”.

Just a week following its first international event of the 2018/2019 season with the Bapco Bahrain GT Festival, the world-class desert race track is all set to host the first continental event of the year with Speed Weekend.

The two-day meeting is scheduled for Friday and Saturday (December 7 and 8) and it will feature five exciting series from across the region and Asia.

Headlining will be the MRF Challenge from India and the Bahrain-based Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East. The other championships taking place are the BIC 2,000cc Challenge, the Bahrain Motorcycle Racing (BMR) 600, the Bahrain Supersport Championship (BSSP) 125 and the Bahrain Superbike Championship (BSBK).

The MRF Challenge is a single-seater championship. It features some of the fastest young talent from around the world, with races being held all across Asia.

The weekend’s events in the MRF Challenge are the second of their season. They had previously begun their campaign in Dubai last month.

Powered by Lechner Racing, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East is in its 10th season and is the most professional and successful one-make GT series in the Middle East. With the organisation based at BIC, the GT3 Cup follows the highly successful Porsche formula for one-make series racing the challenge gives every driver an equal chance to compete, racing in identically constructed Porsche GT3 Cup cars.

The championship offers an ideal platform for the Arab world’s most promising circuit racing drivers to broaden their racing experience on the region’s most appealing race tracks.

This weekend’s events mark the second round of the GT3 Cup Challenge’s season, and three races are scheduled to be held.

The BIC 2,000cc Challenge is the longest-running circuit racing championship in the region. Following simple regulations yet extremely fun to watch, the series is the ideal venue for aspiring racers to develop their skills.

BMR 600 is among the first motorbike championships to establish itself at BIC. Riders compete in identical Honda Hornet 600cc bikes, thus requiring the maximum from each participant to claim a victory.

The BSSP 125 will see plenty of tight-knit racing with riders competing in various powerful superbikes.

In the BSBK, riders compete on identical Ducati 899 Panigale sports bikes. The championship follows the arrive-and-drive format, allowing riders to lease the bikes the entire campaign, enabling them to focus on improving their racing skills without having to worry about parts, maintenance and tyres.

Action in the 2,000cc Challenge, the BMR 600, the BSSP 125 and the BSBK marks the third round of their respective seasons.
