BIC hosts various initiatives to empower nearly 500 of Kingdom’s talented youth

BIC hosts various initiatives to empower nearly 500 of Kingdom’s talented youth

Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”, hosted nearly 500 young people from across the Kingdom over the past several months for various internships, project-based employment, and career-building programmes.

These initiatives were held as part of BIC’s continuous objective of empowering talented youngsters, both Bahrainis and non-Bahrainis, and immersing them in the dynamic world of motorsport, while helping them gain valuable experience that will help further enhance their skills for their professional pursuits.

The announcement from BIC comes on International Youth Day – a global platform under the United Nations that aims to raise awareness of the need to ensure the engagement and participation of youth as partners in global society.

BIC Chief Operating Officer Fayez Ramzy Fayez commented: “BIC is committed to the development of talented youth across Bahrain and providing opportunities for them to flourish and further enhance their skills in real-world environments.

“The initiatives we have hosted over the past several months have contributed tremendously to this and we are proud of all the participants who made both valuable contributions to our daily operations and showcased their capabilities to excel in the kingdom’s workforce.”

The programmes held at BIC included various months-long internships with several departments across the circuit. With a special focus on women, youth of all skills and backgrounds took part.

The interns were able to contribute in the organisation and running of a number of major events, highlighted by the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2024.

Through these internships, BIC aimed to help create a pipeline of skilled talent who can contribute effectively to the continued growth of all kinds of Bahraini institutions today and in the future.

A number of young people were also given opportunities to join the circuit as casual staff for various projects held throughout the year. They contributed to the daily tasks required at the circuit’s various departments, and made timely contributions in the smooth delivery of all BIC events, both on and off the race track.

Meanwhile, BIC partnered with INJAZ Bahrain for a summer experience entitled “Innovate to Accelerate”, held for youngsters aged 17 to 22.

Forty young people on each day over a course of the five-day course took part in several workshops where they were able to engage in critical thinking and problem-solving tasks; develop communication and leadership skills; enjoy fun, creative and hands-on learning activities; build work skills like resume writing and interviewing; improve self-awareness, goal-setting, and career decision-making; and develop a growth mindset for the Bahrain workforce.

A group of these programme participants were also treated to the chance to drive along Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC), BIC’s world-class grassroots motorsport facility.
BIC also hosted a three-month internship programme for Bahraini women engineers, named “Diverse Drive”.

This offered university graduates of mechanical and automotive engineering, or other related fields, the opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals. They learned from these industry experts at the circuit and contributed to cutting-edge projects in the motorsport domain, all while promoting equality and diversity within the field.

These programmes and much more are conducted throughout the calendar year by BIC. The circuit continuously aims to do its part in providing opportunities for the kingdom’s pool of talented professionals and also inspire future generations to get involved in Bahrain’s burgeoning motorsport industry.
