World Champions McLaren go fastest in second F1 practice under lights in Bahrain GP 2025 at BIC

The McLaren pairing of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris took the top two positions this evening in the second practice session of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025 at Bahrain International Circuit.

Piastri went quickest in McLaren’s MCL39 car with a best lap time of 1:30.505 under lights. He was 0.154s faster than teammate Norris, showing the team’s strong pace as they aim to secure their first-ever victory in Sakhir.

George Russell in Mercedes’ W16 was classified third in the session 0.527s from the top, while Charles Leclerc of Ferrari ranked fourth 0.540s off in his SF-25.

Kimi Antonelli put two Mercedes cars in the top five after going 0.722s from Piastri. Isack Hadjar in his Racing Bulls VCARB 02 was sixth 0.733s from the top, four-time reigning drivers’ world champion Max Verstappen in Red Bull Racing’s RB21 was seventh 0.825s back, and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton completed the top eight for Ferrari 1.071s from first place.

Oliver Bearman was the leading Haas driver in their VF-25, placing ninth with a 1.079s from first, and Carlos Sainz of Williams was 10th in his FW47 car 1.118s back.

Classified 11th through 20th, respectively, were Alexander Albon (+1.191s) in the second Williams, Liam Lawson (+1.201s) in the other Racing Bulls, Gabriel Bortoleto (+1.267s) in his Kick Sauber C45, Jack Doohan (+1:31.788) for Alpine in his A525, former two-time world champion Fernando Alonso (+1.320s) in his Aston Martin AMR25, Esteban Ocon (+1.365s) in the other Haas, Pierre Gasly (+1.442s) for Alpine, Yuki Tsunoda (+1.519s) for Red Bull Racing, Lance Stroll (+1.877s) in the second Aston Martin, and Nico Hulkenberg (+1.991s) for Kick Sauber.

F1 action resumes on Saturday (Editor’s note: 12 April) with the weekend’s third practice session at 3.30pm and qualifying at 7pm.

Fornaroli, Durksen claim pole position for F2 races in Bahrain

Leonardo Fornaroli of Invicta Racing captured pole position today for the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race, scheduled to be held on Sunday in support of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at Bahrain International Circuit.

Fornaroli posted a best lap time of 1:44.008 during qualifying today, going 0.155s quicker than Victor Martins of ART Grand Prix.

Luke Browning of Hitech GP qualified third 0.284s off the leading pace, while Alexander Dunne of Rodin Motorsport will join him on the second row after going 0.316s off the mark.

Joshua Durksen of AIX Racing took pole for F2’s sprint race, scheduled for Saturday. Durksen earned the leading grid position after finishing 10th in qualifying with a lap of 1:44.802, which gave him the F2 sprint pole based on the championship’s rules.

Camara bags pole for F3 feature, Dufek for F3 sprint

Rafael Camara of Trident bagged pole position for the Formula 3 feature race on Sunday, to be held in support of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025.

Camara set a fastest lap of 1:49.214 to top the timesheet in this afternoon’s qualifying runs.
Callum Voisin of Rodin Motorsport will start alongside Camara on the front row after qualifying 0.156s off his mark, while Charlie Wurz will be third for Trident, going 0.404s off his teammate’s pace. Christian Ho of DAMS Lucas Oil joins Wurz on row two.

Meanwhile, Joshua Dufek of Hitech TGR will start on pole for Saturday’s F3 Sprint Race. His qualifying mark of 1:50.057 was 12th best, which, by F3’s unique rules, earned him the leading grid position for the sprint.

De Haan sets pace in Porsche Carrera Cup ME second practice

Robert De Haan topped the second practice times in the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East (PCCME), supporting this weekend’s Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025.

De Haan posted a best lap of 2:02.908. He went 0.520 seconds quicker than Janne Stiak, while Khaled Alahmadi finished third 1.102s adrift.

De Haan was also the leader in the PCCME’s Pro class and Alahmadi the ProAm category.

Bankcy finished ninth in the practice classification and led the Masters class.

R3HAB puts on stunning Friday night show for fans

BIC kicked off its concert series this F1 weekend tonight as thousands of fans enjoyed the live performance of multi-platinum DJ and producer Fadil El Ghoul, better known as R3HAB.

R3HAB took to the main stage of BIC’s vending area for a stunning show, much to the delight of the massive crowd that was on hand.

His live performance was just the first in this year’s grand prix, featuring international dance music superstars. On Saturday, Peggy Gou will be performing live and then on Sunday Axwell will lead the post-race celebrations with his performance.
